Oemeta is actively pursuing greater sustainability

This year, the metal working fluid manufacturer Oemeta Chemische Werke (Oemeta Chemical Works) will be exhibiting at the AMB under the banner of sustainability. Alongside the water-miscible metalworking fluid ESTRAMET S 77, for demanding machining applications, and the mineral-oil-free, ester-based HYCUT system, the two digital innovations, logyc Software and logyclab, ensure fluid management and monitoring during use of metal working fluids. All of this underscores the manufacturer’s sustainability campaign. Aligning itself to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, Oemeta is assuming a responsible and leading role in the development and manufacture of metal working fluids.

“Aligning all of our activities towards greater sustainability has become for us a structured project that is very close to our hearts, which we are pursuing with great meticulousness and care”, assures Agnes Waterstrat, National Sales and Marketing Director at Oemeta Chemische Werke GmbH. The innovations exhibited by the manufacturer at the AMB should also be considered in this context. Above all, two digital innovations facilitating fluid management and monitoring during use of metal working fluids stand out and demonstrate how transparency, information and analyses can improve the processes and significantly extend the service lives of metal working fluids and tools.

With logyc Software and logyclab, users receive not only a flexible, cloud-based control tool, but also a control unit for conducting automated analyses of metal working fluids, hydraulic fluids and other industrial fluids used in machining production. This is because – in order to ensure that work involving machining processes is continuously conducted efficiently and sustainably – it is important to continuously monitor the condition of the metal working fluids and other fluids – irrespective of whether drilling, milling, boring or grinding is taking place. Achieving this requires regular measurements and analyses of the fluids.

Logyc Software ensures transparency and offers practical tips

The cloud-based, fluid management logyc Software manages all relevant data concerning metal working fluids, hydraulic fluids, washing agents or other types of fluids used in connection with machining processes. The software thus makes it possible – via a central system or from mobile devices – to enter measurement data, query the statuses of process media and to plan the servicing measures necessary to maintain all fluids. Process managers can thus identify any potential weak points in the system at a glance. They can then quickly and easily initiate the measures necessary to maintain the metal working fluids and process media.

Logyclab provides automated digital monitoring

The logyclab digital monitoring unit automatically analyses metal working fluids and other types of fluids used in machining processes, irrespective of the fluids’ brand or manufacturer. For example, the pH value, conductivity or concentration of metal working fluids can thus be recorded. The measured data can be transferred to internal databases within the machine, or to external databases, and are available for further evaluations. Logyclab can be individually configured and adjusted to match the requirements of the necessary analyses in each case. Communication takes place either directly with the machine, or with external databases via a LAN or WLAN. Automated recording of the measurement data renders superfluous the often tedious process of manually recording the data.

A product design that helps to promote greater sustainability

The fact that the top metal working fluids also convincingly stand out for their sustainability qualities is impressively demonstrated by ESTRAMET S77. This is because it is a mineral-oil-free, water-miscible metal working fluid produced from synthetic ester oils. It was developed for demanding machining processes and demonstrates its strengths, in particular, when used with high-alloy steels, as well as with aluminium alloys and titanium alloys. This powerful and durable metal working fluid is also free of mineral oils, boron and formaldehyde, as well as fungicides and active sulphur. Its ability to greatly improve process quality and tool service life as a result of its almost unbelievable performance characteristics has been confirmed by an independent testing body.

The oils used with the HYCUT system are also ester based. This feature alone increases sustainability. They are mutually compatible as a machining oil, metal working fluid or cleaner and can thus, for example, reduce the interim cleaning processes required. A crankshaft manufacturer can thus dispense with three interim washers, which would have had to have been installed in the case of conventional media. This reduces investment costs considerably and also leads to savings on water and disposal costs.
